Physical Training

Urban Research Theater conducts ongoing research in physical training and movement work through the creation and development of precise and flexible physical actions. Through such work, the performer can gradually deepen the relationship between the mechanics of the human body and the associative and rhythmic work of the actor.

Another aspect of our physical work focuses on the cultivation of embodied attention through direct mimetic communication ("following") and the search for organic flow. We are looking for concrete methods to provoke the intersection of rigor and joy in the body.

Although our physical work has much in common with contemporary and postmodern dance, it has been most significantly influenced by master teachers Anne Zenour (Italy) and Stefano Vercelli (Italy), as well as by Balinese dance and other traditional forms.
