MISSION

Urban Research Theater develops original performances out of a continuous, long-term practice of embodied research. Our commitment to integrating narrative and image with irreducible liveness in performance draws on traditions ranging from Stanislavski and Grotowski in theatre to postmodern dance and performance art.

For our purposes, "performance" is defined as a repeatable score of somatic transformations composed so as to be perceptible to a general public. The term "theater" then refers not to an institution but to a space in which a significant event is observed, as in an operating theater or a theater of war.
