Summer Project

Medicine Show Theatre

The Summer Project 2010 was a two-month long series of events, organized around an eight-week run of Urban Research Theater's performance PLAY/WAR. Over 70 artists were involved, with performances in dance, theater, and music. There was also a symposium for academics and practitioners; an opening and closing party; and an intensive four-day workshop with guest teachers. July 8 GRAND OPENING PARTY Featuring Cristina Amodeo, Mr. Brace, Valentina Caggio, Emanuel and the Fear, Leimay (Ximena Garnica & Shige Moriya), Martina Merlini, Matilde Soligno, and Miriam Wolf.

July 15 - September 4 PERFORMANCE RUN: PLAY/WAR An explosive journey through intimacy, violence, and liberation. Created and performed by Maximilian Balduzzi and Ben Spatz.

July 29 SYMPOSIUM: MASCULINITY AND EMBODIED PRACTICE Featuring Doug Risner, Aimee Rose Ranger, Jeff Casey, Shelby Hibbs, Milton Loayza, Susan Mar Landau, Jef Johnson, John Stoltenberg, Fred Landers, Salvatore LaRussa Dance Theatre, Michael DiPietro, Austin Selden and Sarah Konner.

August 2 - 5 "LINES OF FLIGHT" INTENSIVE WORKSHOP With sessions led by Ben Spatz, Maximilian Balduzzi, and guest teachers Daniel Irizarry (Columbia University), Brooke O'Harra (Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf), Kameron Steele (The South Wing), and Gian Murray Gianino (SITI Company).

August 8 CAMPFIRE: NIGHT OF MUSIC Curated by Francesca Divano and Mr. Brace. With musical performances by Daniel Kent, Emanuel and the Fear, Mr. Brace, Bigger Princess, Kate Ferencz, and ACLU Benefit.

August 29 GUEST PERFORMANCE: BODY AS CAMERA By Anne-Marte Eidseth Rygh.

August 30 THREE WORKS IN PROGRESS Featuring Gudrun Bühler, Michele Farbman, and Ben Spatz.

September 4 GRAND FINALE & RENT PARTY With guest performance by Peter Sciscioli and Gideon Crevoshay.
